Did you know that you can be prevented from checking in your trip and boarding, depending on your destination, because you are carrying a passport with less than 6 months of validity? Don’t turn your trip into a nightmare. Below are the documents required to request your Passport Renewal.
Common documentation for all cases:
1) Completion and submission of the electronic application form. At the end of filling, print the delivery receipt;
2) Photograph size 5X5 cm (for passport), with the following specifications:
– Taken less than 6 months ago (in the case of babies, the most recent photo possible);
– Face facing the camera, without head covering (for cases involving religious orientation, check the specific instructions of the Consular Post of interest.);
– White background and well lit;
– With good quality, focus and definition;
– Paste the photo in the form, even if it is larger than the available space (do not cut the photo to insert it in the form);
3) Current passport.
– The current passport will be canceled and returned to the applicant;
– The validity of the new passport will be affected if your current passport is valid and not presented;
– If the passport has been stolen, stolen, lost or damaged, it is mandatory to fill in the loss report, which must be signed according to the valid identification document to be presented;
– In the case of theft or loss, in addition to the loss report, it is also mandatory to present a police report provided by the local police authority;
4) Valid and original Brazilian identification document, such as:
– Current passport valid or expired for less than two years;
– Identity card (RG);
– National Driver’s License (CNH);
– License issued by a public body, recognized as an identity document valid throughout the national territory;
– If you do not have any of the documents above, exceptionally and at the discretion of the Consular Authority, a valid foreign identification document may be accepted, provided it contains the same name as the Brazilian document that proves your nationality;
5) Proof of Brazilian nationality and naturalness. The following documents prove Brazilian nationality, as long as the city and state of birth are included:
– Brazilian birth certificate;
– Brazilian marriage certificate;
– Identity Card (RG);
– Certificate of naturalization (additional document proving the city of birth must be presented);
– Brazilians born abroad must necessarily present a consular birth certificate or, if already transcribed in Brazil, a Brazilian birth certificate;
– If you were born abroad between 1994 and 2007, your birth certificate may contain “nationality observation”. Click here to understand what this means and check what must be done;
– The Brazilian driver’s license (CNH) is not accepted as proof of citizenship;
6) Damaged or very old documents, whose authenticity cannot be confirmed, may be refused, at the discretion of the Consular Authority;

Passport for over 18 years old
Additional documentation:
1) Electoral discharge certificate:
– For citizens between 18 and 70 years old. The certificate can be obtained from the website of the Superior Electoral Court.
2) Original of the military document:
– For male applicants between 18 and 45 years old;
– The presentation of the military document may be waived, at the discretion of the Consular Authority;
Passport for Minors under 18
Additional documentation:
1) Both parents must authorize the issuance of the minor’s passport, using the Authorization Form for Passport and Travel for Brazilian Minors:
– The form is mandatory, even if the parents do not wish to include travel authorization in the minor’s passport;
– Minors who move within Brazilian territory, or leave it, unaccompanied by one or both parents, must present travel authorization. Such authorization can be included in the passport, if the parents so wish;
– If the minor does not have the travel authorization in the passport, the parents must issue a separate authorization every time the child leaves Brazil or travels in Brazilian territory;
2) Parents’ identification document:
– The document must contain a photo and be within the validity period;
– Brazilian parents must present a valid Brazilian identification document;
– If one of the parents has changed their name after the child’s birth has been registered, they must present the Brazilian document that changed their name (marriage certificate, for example);
– In cases where one of the parents is deceased, a death certificate (original and copy) must be presented;
Name change
Additional documentation:
1) Updated Brazilian civil registry:
– In cases of change of name due to marriage, separation or divorce, a Brazilian birth certificate, marriage certificate or divorce certificate, or even a full certificate, must be presented, provided that the full previous name and current name are expressed;
– If the name change occurred for reasons OTHER than marriage or divorce, you must present a birth certificate with the respective name change annotation;
– Foreign certificates must be obligatorily registered at a Brazilian Consulate or Registry Office in order to be considered;
